The short answer

Yes, Z Fold 8 Wide cases exist and are on sale now. Samsung sells the phone as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 ("Z Fold 8 Wide" was its pre-launch name), so look for a Galaxy Z Fold 8 case. It folds to 123.9 mm tall × 81.9 mm wide × 9.7 mm, and no Z Fold 7 or Z Fold 8 Ultra case fits it. Our cases made for it: the Spineguard P1, Axon M2, Axon M1, Sentinel H1 and Apex M3. Up front: we design and sell hinge, metal-frame and MagSafe-compatible cases for the Galaxy Z Fold line, including the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8, so we have a horse in this race. That's exactly why we'll be specific about what fits, what doesn't, and which of our own cases are actually made for this phone and which aren't. Updated 29 September 2026.

If you searched for a Z Fold 8 Wide case, here's why it trips people up. Samsung's wide, passport-shaped foldable went by "Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide" in pre-launch reports. When it launched on 22 July 2026, Samsung simply called it the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the tall book-fold that replaces the Z Fold 7 became the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. So if you own the wide one, the case you need is a Galaxy Z Fold 8 case, and none of your older Z Fold cases will fit it. If you're weighing up cases for both models, our best Galaxy Z Fold 8 cases guide covers the Ultra as well.

Why a Z Fold 8 Wide case is sold as a Galaxy Z Fold 8 case

Because they're the same phone. Samsung announced it at Galaxy Unpacked on 22 July 2026 and it's on sale now as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, from US$1,899 for 256GB. Folded, it measures 123.9 mm tall × 81.9 mm wide × 9.7 mm thick and weighs 201 g. Inside is a 7.6-inch 4:3 display; outside is a 5.5-inch cover screen; the rear camera pairs a 50MP main with a 50MP ultrawide and no telephoto. Samsung rates its hinge to 500,000 folds.

The full measurements and the naming story are in Z Fold 8 Wide vs Z Fold 8: dimensions and fit, and specs and prices for both models are in our Galaxy Z Fold 8 specs, price & release date guide.

Will a Z Fold 8 Ultra case fit the Z Fold 8 Wide?

No. The Z Fold 8 Ultra folds to 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm. The wide Z Fold 8 is 34.5 mm shorter, 9.1 mm wider and 0.8 mm thicker when folded. That's not a gap you can absorb with a soft TPU lip. The button cut-outs land in the wrong place, the camera island sits in a different position, and the hinge channel, the part that matters most on a foldable, is shaped for the wrong body. Forcing a case onto the wrong body is how you stress a cover-display frame. If you're still choosing between the two phones, read Z Fold 8 vs Z Fold 8 Ultra: which to buy.

Will a Z Fold 7 case fit the Z Fold 8 Wide?

No. The Z Fold 7 shares the Ultra's folded footprint exactly (158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm), so it has the same mismatch. We say this knowing "your old case fits" would be an easier sentence to write. It just isn't true. Every case we sell for the wide Z Fold 8 is its own model option with its own mould, not a Z Fold 7 shell with a new label.

What changes for a case when a foldable gets wider?

Three things, and none of them are cosmetic.

The spine. On a book-style foldable the hinge runs along the phone's height, and the wide Z Fold 8 is 123.9 mm tall, 34.5 mm shorter than the Ultra. A hinge cover or spine channel cut for the tall models is the wrong length and sits in the wrong place.

Thickness. At 9.7 mm folded, the wide Z Fold 8 is 0.8 mm thicker than the Ultra, so a case built to the thinner profile either won't close properly or presses where it shouldn't.

Width and the camera. The body is 9.1 mm wider and the camera island sits in a different place relative to the corners, so a mispositioned cut-out leaves lenses shadowed or exposed. Widening a foldable case is a re-engineer, not a stretch.

Can you buy a real Z Fold 8 Wide case now?

Yes. The phone has been on sale since July, so there's no longer any reason for a case to be cut from guesswork. What to check on any listing, ours included: that there's a distinct Galaxy Z Fold 8 model option (not just "Z Fold 8 Ultra"), and that the product photos show the wide model's camera cut-out. Be sceptical of a single shell claiming to fit "Z Fold 8, 7, 6 and 5", because those bodies can't share a mould. Everything in our Galaxy Z Fold 8 collection is offered as a separate Galaxy Z Fold 8 model option.

Best Z Fold 8 Wide cases from our range

For most owners, the Spineguard P1 is the best case for the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8, because it covers the hinge, adds a magnetic ring kickstand and has a cover-screen protector built in. We make five cases for this phone, each with its own Galaxy Z Fold 8 mould. Here's what each one actually is, from its product page:

  • Spineguard P1: a spring-loaded spine cover that slides open and closed as you fold, an N52 magnetic ring that doubles as a 360-degree kickstand, a built-in 9H tempered-glass cover-screen protector, and CNC-machined metal rings around each camera lens.
  • Axon M2: a wrap-around hinge cover, an aerospace-grade alloy frame, and a metal ring that works as a finger grip, a kickstand that folds out to 180 degrees, and a MagSafe mount point via its N52 magnets.
  • Axon M1: a clear, anti-yellowing polycarbonate shell that shows off the phone's colour, a 360-degree ring stand that opens to 170 degrees, N52 MagSafe-compatible magnets and a raised metal camera bezel.
  • Sentinel H1: a hinge cover case with a shock-absorbent polycarbonate shell and a built-in alloy ring that rotates 360 degrees as a grip and multi-angle kickstand, and works with magnetic car mounts.
  • Apex M3: the slim option, a two-piece liquid-silicone case with N52 magnets and a 1.3 mm raised lip around the cameras. It leaves the hinge free rather than covering it.

For the glass itself, our tempered camera lens protector and Ion Glass screen protector both have dedicated Galaxy Z Fold 8 versions.

What type of case is best for a wide foldable?

A hinge-cover case with a rotating ring or kickstand is the best type for most wide foldable owners. The 4:3 inner display is landscape-friendly, so a kickstand or a 360-degree ring becomes more useful than it is on a tall Fold, where portrait dominates. For reading, media and video calls, a landscape stand earns its keep.

The flip side: at 81.9 mm wide folded, one-handed cover-screen use is harder, so a grip ring stops being a nice-to-have. That's why four of our five wide Z Fold 8 cases (the Spineguard P1, Axon M2, Axon M1 and Sentinel H1) have a rotating ring or kickstand. We'd steer most wide Z Fold 8 owners toward one of those over a bare slim shell, which is the opposite of what we'd tell a Z Fold 7 minimalist. Choose the two-piece Apex M3 only if pocket size matters more to you than hinge cover.

Does the wide Z Fold 8 still need hinge protection?

Yes. Samsung's 500,000-fold hinge rating is about opening and closing, not about drops, side impacts or pocket grit. When the phone is closed, the spine is its most exposed edge, and a back-only shell leaves it bare. A cosmetic "hinge channel" that's really just a decorative strip doesn't help; you want a case that actually covers the spine. The Spineguard P1, Axon M2 and Sentinel H1 all cover the hinge on the wide Z Fold 8. For why the hinge and inner screen are the parts that matter most, see Galaxy Z Fold 8 hinge durability: what breaks first.

Will MagSafe-style charging work through a wide Z Fold 8 case?

Yes, if the case has a magnet ring positioned for the wide model's back. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has no built-in magnets: it is Qi2 Ready, with up to 20W wireless charging (and 45W wired), and the magnetic alignment comes from the case. A magnet ring positioned for the taller Z Fold 8 Ultra would sit off-centre on the wide body, which weakens the hold and can slow charging. That's another reason the wide model needs its own mould.

The Spineguard P1, Axon M2, Axon M1 and Apex M3 all have N52 magnet rings in their Galaxy Z Fold 8 versions. The Sentinel H1's alloy ring works with magnetic car mounts, but it isn't sold as a MagSafe charging case. For more on Qi2 and charging through a case, read Does the Z Fold 8 have MagSafe?

Do you need a pen slot on a wide Z Fold 8 case?

No, because the Galaxy Z Fold 8 doesn't support the S Pen, and neither do the Z Fold 8 Ultra or the Z Fold 7. The S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro only work on the Z Fold 3, 4, 5 and 6, and no case can add S Pen support to a phone without the digitiser. So choose on hinge protection, grip and magnets instead. More in our Galaxy Z Fold S Pen guide.

Buy a case now, or wait?

Buy now. The phone is out, its dimensions are confirmed, and cases are cut for the wide body specifically. The earlier advice to wait only made sense before launch, when nobody had a retail unit. Today, the risk runs the other way: a wide foldable carried bare is exposed at the hinge, the corners and the cover screen. Pick the case that matches how you use the phone: a ring or kickstand case for the landscape display, a hinge-cover case if you're hard on your phones, or a slim magnetic shell if you prize pocketability. Add a lens protector if you set the phone down on its back a lot.

Z Fold 8 Wide case FAQ

What is the best Z Fold 8 Wide case?

For most people, the Spineguard P1: it covers the hinge and has a built-in cover-screen protector and a magnetic ring kickstand. Choose the Axon M2 for a metal frame and ring stand, the Axon M1 for a clear case, the Sentinel H1 for a ring grip, or the Apex M3 for the slimmest magnetic shell. All five have a dedicated Galaxy Z Fold 8 version.

Is a Z Fold 8 Wide case the same as a Galaxy Z Fold 8 case?

Yes. "Z Fold 8 Wide" was the pre-launch name for the phone Samsung sells as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, so a Z Fold 8 Wide cover and a Galaxy Z Fold 8 case are the same thing. Just make sure the listing doesn't mean the Z Fold 8 Ultra, which is a taller phone and takes a different case.

Do Z Fold 8 Ultra or Z Fold 7 cases fit the Z Fold 8 Wide?

No. The Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Fold 7 both fold to 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm, while the Z Fold 8 Wide (Galaxy Z Fold 8) folds to 123.9 × 81.9 × 9.7 mm. Button cut-outs, camera position and hinge length all differ, so it needs a case made for its own body.

What type of case is best for a wide foldable phone?

A hinge-cover case with a rotating ring or kickstand suits most people. The 4:3 inner screen works well in landscape, so a stand gets real use, and the wider folded body is harder to hold one-handed, so a grip ring helps. Choose a slim two-piece shell only if pocket size matters more than covering the hinge.

Will the Z Fold 8 Wide charge wirelessly with a case on?

Yes. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 supports up to 20W wireless charging. It is Qi2 Ready but has no built-in magnets, so a magnetic case supplies the alignment. Choose a case whose magnet ring is positioned for the wide model's back, such as the Spineguard P1, Axon M2, Axon M1 or Apex M3.

Can one case fit both the Z Fold 8 Wide and the Z Fold 8 Ultra?

No. They fold to different sizes, 123.9 × 81.9 × 9.7 mm versus 158.4 × 72.8 × 8.9 mm, so a single shell can't fit both. Check that a listing lets you select the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as its own model option, and be wary of any case claiming to fit the Z Fold 8, 7, 6 and 5.

The honest summary

Z Fold 8 Wide cases exist, and you can buy one today. The phone Samsung launched on 22 July 2026 as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 folds to 123.9 × 81.9 × 9.7 mm, so no Z Fold 7 or Z Fold 8 Ultra case will fit it; it needs a case made for its own body. From our range, that means the Spineguard P1, Axon M2, Axon M1, Sentinel H1 or Apex M3, each in its Galaxy Z Fold 8 version. Given the landscape-friendly 4:3 display and the wider grip, most owners will be happiest with a ring or kickstand case that also covers the hinge.
