Looking for a Z Fold 8 case with S Pen storage? Know this first: neither the Galaxy Z Fold 8 nor the Z Fold 8 Ultra supports the S Pen, and no case can change that, so any Z Fold 8 Ultra S Pen case can only carry a capacitive stylus. If that's what you want, the Kinetic P1 is the case we'd pick for the Ultra: a stylus slot moulded into the hinge cover plus an N52 magnet ring. If you own a Z Fold 5 or 6, cases like the Kinetic P1 and Sync M1 hold a real S Pen Fold Edition.
Up front: we design and sell stylus-holder cases for the Galaxy Z Fold, including the Kinetic P1 MagSafe stylus hinge case, the Sync M1, the Envoy C1 wallet folio and the Scribe K1 keyboard set. So yes, we have a horse in this race. But the answers below are written from the bench, not the sales desk, including the parts that talk you out of features you don't need. For every case type, not just pen cases, see our best Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra cases guide. Updated 29 September 2026.
What is the best Z Fold 8 Ultra case with a pen holder?
The Kinetic P1. The holder is moulded into a rigid full-length hinge cover rather than added to the back, so the case stays as slim as a plain hinge case: the stylus slides in along the spine, clicks home, and slides out in one motion, and it sits clear of the fold so the phone opens and closes as it did bare. You also get a reinforced edge bumper, raised camera bezels, a snap-on front frame and an N52 magnet ring for MagSafe-style chargers and mounts, with wireless charging through the case and the stylus still parked. It comes in Black, Caramel and Cream, and the stylus isn't in the box.
On the Z Fold 8 Ultra the slot holds a slim capacitive stylus, not an S Pen. Here's how our pen-carrying cases compare:
| Case | Pen holder | Made for | Also has |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kinetic P1 | Side-loading slot in the hinge cover | Z Fold 8 Ultra, 7, 6, 5 | N52 magnet ring, full-length hinge cover |
| Envoy C1 | Stylus slot in a PU leather wallet folio | Z Fold 8 Ultra, 7, 6, 5 | Four card slots, kickstand, shoulder strap |
| Scribe K1 | Hinged pen holder (stylus included) | Z Fold 8 Ultra, 7, 6, 5 | Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, 360-degree hinge protection |
| Sync M1 | Compartment along the spine | Z Fold 7, 6, 5 (no Ultra version) | N52 magnet ring, rear kickstand, optional pen bundle |
All four take the S Pen Fold Edition on a Z Fold 6 or 5, and a slim capacitive stylus on the Z Fold 7 and (where offered) the Z Fold 8 Ultra. Browse the full Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra collection for every other style.
Can a Z Fold 8 Ultra S Pen case add S Pen support?
No. A case can hold a pen, but whether the screen reads an S Pen is decided by the phone, and the Z Fold 8 Ultra, Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 7 don't support it. The S Pen works on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, 4, 5 and 6 only. On the newer phones the pen in that slot will be a capacitive stylus: fine for tapping, signatures and rough notes, with no pressure sensitivity.
Conflating "supports" with "holds" is the biggest source of buyer regret in this category. For the model-by-model detail, read does the Galaxy Z Fold 8 support the S Pen?, then come back here to solve the carrying problem.
Is there a Galaxy Z Fold 8 case with a stylus slot for the wide model?
Not from us. None of our pen-holder cases is made for the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8 (known before launch as the Z Fold 8 Wide), and no Z Fold 7 or Ultra case fits its 123.9 × 81.9 × 9.7 mm folded body. It doesn't support the S Pen either. If you want a pen with that phone, carry a slim capacitive stylus separately and choose a case for protection; our Galaxy Z Fold 8 cases include the Axon M2, Spineguard P1, Sentinel H1, Axon M1 and Apex M3.
Z Fold 5 and 6 owners: cases that hold the S Pen Fold Edition
If your Fold still supports the S Pen, all four cases above fit the S Pen Fold Edition on the Z Fold 6 and Z Fold 5. The Sync M1 is the one to look at if you write at a desk: its rear kickstand props the display, and Fold 5 or 6 owners can order it bundled with the pen. The Kinetic P1 is the slimmer everyday choice. Buy the S Pen Fold Edition rather than a standard S Pen: it has a softer tip designed for the foldable display, and a standard hard-tip S Pen can damage the inner screen.
What "S Pen compatible" means on a case listing
Almost nothing, and that's the trap. "S Pen compatible" usually means only that the case doesn't physically obstruct the pen when you're using it. It is not a promise of storage. We've seen the phrase on slim cases with no holder, no slot and no channel anywhere on the body. And on a Z Fold 7, Z Fold 8 or Z Fold 8 Ultra, it can't mean the phone reads an S Pen, because it doesn't. If a case page says "compatible" but never shows the pen docked to the case in a photo, assume there is nowhere to put it. Look for the words "holder", "slot" or "silo", and look for the photo proving it.
Side slot, push-to-eject or pop-up: which pen holder lasts?
A real holder mechanically captures the pen so it travels with the phone; a "doesn't block" case leaves the pen as a loose object you're responsible for. The holder styles you'll see:
- Side slot or channel: the pen slides in along the edge or spine. Slimmest and simplest, and with no moving parts it tends to last longest. The Kinetic P1 uses this.
- Push-to-eject silo: press once and the pen clicks out. It feels the most Note-like, but the spring is the part most likely to wear, and a loose spring means a rattling pen.
- Pop-up holder: spring-loaded, usually paired with thicker builds, and somewhere in between on durability.
Samsung ships the Z Fold without a pen silo to keep the folded body thin, which pushes the whole job of carrying the stylus onto the case. If you're buying on durability, a fixed slot is the safer bet.
Will a pen-holder case make the Fold too thick or block charging?
A side-slot case adds very little to the folded stack, because the pen sits beside the body, not under it. On the Kinetic P1 the holder is part of the hinge cover, so the case stays as slim as a plain hinge case. A silo or pop-up case adds bulk along one edge, which you'll notice in a tight trouser pocket but not in a jacket or bag. If pocket slimness matters most and you rarely use the pen, you may not want a holder case at all.
Charging is fine as long as the pen sits along an edge or the spine, away from the charging coil in the centre of the back. That's why we can put a stylus holder and a magnet ring on the same case: the Kinetic P1 charges wirelessly at full speed with the stylus parked, and wireless charging works through the Sync M1 too. If a pen case runs the pen across the back of the phone, walk away. For more on magnetic options, see our Z Fold 8 Ultra MagSafe case picks.
Capacitive stylus vs a real S Pen: does the bundled pen matter?
It matters a lot, and bundles blur it deliberately. A case that "includes a stylus" usually means a passive capacitive stylus: a soft-tipped pointer with no pressure sensitivity, fine for tapping and rough navigation, not for real handwriting or drawing. On a Galaxy Z Fold 3, 4, 5 or 6, a genuine S Pen Fold Edition is the pressure-sensitive tool the display is built for, so a "case plus pen" deal can mean comparing a real tool to a toy. On a Z Fold 7, Z Fold 8 or Z Fold 8 Ultra it's the other way round: a capacitive stylus is the only kind that works. Buy the holder for storage; buy the pen to suit your phone.
Pen storage and hinge protection in one case
For a Z Fold this is the pairing that matters most, because the two most expensive things to lose or break are the pen you'll misplace and the hinge you can't cheaply fix. An out-of-warranty hinge repair costs far more than a replacement pen. That's why the Kinetic P1 has a rigid full-length hinge cover and the Sync M1 and Scribe K1 have 360-degree hinge protection. The Envoy C1 is different: it's a PU leather wallet folio built around cards, a kickstand and a strap, so pick it for the wallet and the leather look rather than for maximum protection.
The one mistake people make is buying for the pen and forgetting the hinge. The second is buying an S Pen for a Z Fold 7, Z Fold 8 or Z Fold 8 Ultra: it won't work on those phones, whatever case it sits in. If you're reusing a Z Fold 7 pen case on the Ultra, check the camera cut-out first; our guide to Z Fold 7 cases on the Z Fold 8 Ultra explains how.
Z Fold 8 Ultra S Pen case FAQ
What is the best case for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra with S Pen support?
No case can give the Z Fold 8 Ultra S Pen support, because the phone doesn't read an S Pen. The best Z Fold 8 Ultra case with a pen holder is the Kinetic P1: its hinge-cover slot carries a slim capacitive stylus, and it adds an N52 magnet ring and a full-length hinge cover.
Is there a Z Fold 8 case with an S Pen holder?
For the Z Fold 8 Ultra, yes, but the slot holds a capacitive stylus, not an S Pen, because neither Z Fold 8 model supports the S Pen. Our Kinetic P1, Envoy C1 and Scribe K1 all have Ultra versions with a pen slot. We don't make a pen-holder case for the wide Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Can a case add S Pen support to the Z Fold 8 Ultra?
No. S Pen support depends on the phone's display hardware, not the case, and the Z Fold 8 Ultra, Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 7 don't support it. A case can store a pen, but on these phones only a capacitive stylus will work. The Z Fold 3, 4, 5 and 6 still support the S Pen.
Does the Galaxy Z Fold come with an S Pen?
No. No Galaxy Z Fold ships with an S Pen in the box, and there is no built-in silo to store one, which is why a pen-holder case is the standard fix. On the Z Fold 3 to 6 you buy the S Pen Fold Edition separately. Some bundled case-and-stylus deals include a passive capacitive pen instead, which handles tapping but not pressure-sensitive writing.
What's the cheapest way to keep my stylus attached?
A fixed side-slot case is usually the simplest reliable option, because it has no spring to wear out and adds the least bulk. You give up the click of a push-to-eject silo, but you gain durability. Avoid stick-on adhesive pen loops: they peel, and they put the pen behind the phone where it can get in the way of wireless charging.
Will a Z Fold 7 pen case fit the Z Fold 8?
It depends which Z Fold 8. A Z Fold 7-sized case fits the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which folds to the same size (check the camera cut-out), but the slot will hold a capacitive stylus because neither phone supports the S Pen. The wide Galaxy Z Fold 8 is a different shape, and no Z Fold 7 case fits it.
Does a pen slot scratch the pen over time?
No, a well-finished slot shouldn't, because the contact surfaces are smooth. Cheap holders with rough mould lines can mark a glossy pen barrel, which is cosmetic, not functional. If it bothers you, a matte-bodied pen hides wear better than a gloss one.
The honest summary
Neither Z Fold 8 model supports the S Pen, so a Z Fold 8 Ultra case with a pen holder is really a case for a capacitive stylus, and that's fine if it's what you want. For that job the Kinetic P1 is our pick: a slot in the hinge cover, a magnet ring and full hinge protection. Choose the Envoy C1 if you want a wallet folio, or the Scribe K1 for a keyboard-and-pen kit. On a Z Fold 5 or 6, the same cases (plus the Sync M1) hold a real S Pen Fold Edition. Whatever you pick, make sure it guards the hinge too, because that's the expensive failure.
Keep your stylus with your Fold.
